Guyana’s national 400m record holder and three-time Olympian, Aliann Pompey opened her new season indoors on Friday at the Gotham Cup in New York City with a fast time that is expected to boost her confidence this year.
Running unattached, Pompey ran 53.05.00 seconds to win the Women’s 400 metres at the Armory Track and Field Centre in New York. The time was the fastest in the world early in the season for Pompey, who is in good shape.
Long Island’s Christine Jones finished second in 57.59.00 while Delaware State’s Calisa Emerson was third in 57.67. Both athletes trailed the lean Pompey by some four seconds in a race that the Guyanese completely dominated.
Kaieteur Sport also understands that representative to the Beijing Olympic Games, Adam Harris has tied for the fastest 60m this year with 6.65 seconds. However, details of that are sketchy. He apparently did the time two weeks ago.
