Prizes handed over to the 35 winners
The Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) yesterday handed over 35 prizes which were won by persons from across Guyana who participated in the association’s fund raising raffle that raked in over one million dollars.
The association hosted an impressive presentation ceremony yesterday at the Valu Maxx Store Regent and Oronoque Streets, Georgetown.
According to GNRA Secretary Ryan Sampson, the raffle which was well supported saw persons from as far as Bartica, Essequibo, Berbice, East Coast, West Demerara and Parika participating and he was happy that the spread of winners was also broad based. There were a total of 10 main prizes along with 5 sets of five consolation prizes.
Funds raised from the event, which will now be an annual affair, will go towards the association’s participation at a number of regional and international events including the West Indies Fullbore Championships set for May, the Commonwealth Games to be held in October and a Hand Gun competition to be hosted by Barbados in June.
Winning the top prize of one Haier Refrigerator was Azam A. Ally of Barrack Street Kingston whose ticket number was 12248. The second prize of a 7 Piece Dining Set went to ticket holder 10390, Ashlika Persaud.
The third and fourth prizes of one 29” Haier Flat Screen TV and one Haier Washer/Dryer went to Michael Brass (ticket 18712) and G. Henry (ticket 17943) of Clonbrook, East Coast Demerara.
The fifth prize of one Super Cook 4-burner Gas Stove was won by Sharon Cheeks (5575) of South Ruimveldt Park; sixth prize of one Haier Microwave went to Antoinette Lam (7775) of Golden Grove EBD; seventh place – one Haier Blender Claudette Braithwaite (11743) of North East La Penitence; eight place – one Haier Toaster Oven Charles Fung-A-Fat (11082) of Barima Avenue Bel Air Park; ninth place – one 47 piece Dinner Set Marcia Searwar (15955) of East Street and tenth place – one Cake mixer with bowl Nizam Kasem (10108) of Bartica.

The recipients of prizes were all happy to receive their prizes with quite a few saying it was the first time they have ever won a prize, participating in a raffle. They all thanked the GNRA for their prizes and promised to support future fund raising ventures of the association.
The GNRA’s next event along these lines will be a drinks bar on Mash Day, February 23rd at the corners of Vlissengen Road and Crown Street.
