The Andrew DeAbreu and Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Masters’ Table Tennis (TT) tournament featuring the best senior players in Guyana will commence tomorrow at the Malteenoes Sports Club from 10:00am.
The three categories will be contested in the event, includes 40 years and over, 50 years and over and 60 years and over. Kaieteur Sport understands that the tournament has been proposed for sometime on the GTTA calendar of events.
“We got a sponsor for it so we are going to run it off now. Once we get a sponsor, we could probably stage a tournament every weekend,” GTTA Executive and National Table Tennis Coach, Linden Johnson said when contacted yesterday. Johnson said the Master’s competition was planned for earlier this month but it had to be pushed back because of the GTTA League, which was only completed two weeks ago. He said that one other event is being planned to end the year.
“We want to end this tournament by 3:00pm at least so that those who are going up to the football can get a chance to do so,” Johnson indicated.
Some of the players likely to compete in the Masters’ tournament include Michael Vieira, Bruce Murray, Joe Clarke, Leon Yaw, Andrew DeAbreu from Georgetown, Xen Goliah, Morton Blake, Balkisson from the East Coast among others.
Players are also expected from Berbice, Linden and Essequibo. The GTTA said that an entrance fee will be collected while all interested persons are asked to contact Johnson.
