As special guest of 20th Kashif & Shanghai Football Tournament

The greatest footballer to ever walk planet earth is expected to touch down on these shores around 13:00hrs today as Special Guest of the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation’s 20th Anniversary Football Tournament.
Months of negotiations with Pele’s agents (TV Globo- Brazil), Guyana’s Ambassador to Brazil Harry Nowbatt, Minister of Culture Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony and the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation has resulted in the biggest Sporting Icon to ever visit these shores.
The hype and buzz around the city and its close environs about Pele’s visit has been great over the past few days as the time draws near.
Thousands of Guyanese are expected to be at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence to witness the official opening of the 20th K&S tournament where King Pele will take the salute at the march past of all the teams.
This will be preceded by the competition’s opening game between Milerock and debutants Grove Hi Tec at 16:00hrs with the night’s main event which is expected to be a thriller between defending champions Pele and arch rivals Santos.
Directors of the K&S Organisation Kashif Muhammad and Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major in an invited comment expressed their delight at being able to bring the King of Football to Guyana. They both agreed that they do not have enough words to describe their feelings.
“This is a great moment not only for our tournament but for this country, we are forever grateful to all those persons who have contributed towards King Pele’s visit being reality. We would like to make special mention of Ambassador Harry Nowbatt and Dr. Frank Anthony and Captain Gerry Gouveia among others for their contributions.”
