On Tuesday about 21:30hrs at ‘C’ Field, Sophia taxi-driver, Dale Persaud, of Gordon Street, Kitty, was attacked and robbed by three men, two of whom were armed with a handgun and a knife.
Persaud, according to the police, was hired by the three men who had gone to his taxi base for Sophia. At ‘C’ Field, they held him up and took away the motor vehicle HB 6920, cash totalling $21,000, a cell phone and a wrist watch before escaping in the vehicle. The Toyota Raum vehicle was later found by the police abandoned along the Georgetown Seawall.
Two men have since been arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Meanwhile the police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred about 18:15hrs Tuesday at Annandale, East Coast Demerara during which a businessman was attacked by two men, one armed with a handgun, and relieved of his licensed revolver and six rounds. Police report that the businessman was about to enter his premises with his motor vehicle when he was confronted by the men who held him at gunpoint and took away the firearm and ammunition and escaped.
A man has been arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
