Dear Editor,
After reading Michael Anthony’s neophytic and fulsome defence of Juanita Hubern, I was amused. I thought of the time I read what was supposed to be a critique of the ‘greatest love poem.’
And just like Michael Anthony, that quack analyst made a declaration that he did not substantiate. Michael Anthony simply attached criteria and encomiums to his ‘deity’, and all I asked of Michael now is to delineate what makes for a good broadcaster, and how he is able to use these as a gauge against any and every one.
I am convinced that at the end, he will need not only aural, but intellectual and professional help. Also query why is it that Malcom Ferreira does the sponsored ‘Tales from the Crack’ when so many others have tried to bring a redemptive and salubrious series on air.
Your heroine Michael, actually has a massive lisping problem which creates a quarrelsome milieu when she speaks even normally. Added to this, her grammar is quite amiss. Tell me how can ‘…if you see anyone, tell them…’ be defended. Also ‘…everyone must come with their…’ Since (I think) you yourself do not know, get some one to guide you along these examples of solecism. This is also very common with Ron Robinson, and most of the announcers. In fact can your heroes and heroines go and teach a class of young CXC/GCE English students? I was unfortunately tuned in to the morning show NCN 11, when Neeaz Subhan kept saying ‘did told.’ Imagine! Bye the way, he heads GINA.
There was a time when VOG’s Breakfast Show was done my Mr. GI Chappelle, and it was tepid. It was presumably over-heated by Malcolm Ferreira and Michella Abrham–Ali, and so it is now back to ‘cold zone.’ If anyone wants to check, just listen, and you get the impression that words are literally heavy when the current presenter speaks. He is the one who actually described the H1N1 virus as ‘hin one.’ Are you getting the point sir? The gift of gab is given to few, and Malcolm Ferreira is one of those few. I sincerely hope he is reinstated. And as for Mr. Seegobin, he seems below consideration – so I will rest my case.
Hey how about having Ms. Juanita and Mr. Ferreira doing a joint coverage? I think this will suffice. I hope it happens before too long. Juanita does have her place – she seems good at the promotional domain and in areas of general advertising/commercial etc.
Lest you do not know, there is a place for the deejays and their kinds of shows. Guyana is quite pluralistic, and hip-hop, R and B, dub and rap must be given a place as well. Albeit brusque and disjointed, it suits the audience and can be used for ameliorative purposes.
The contemporary society now sees didactic value in just about any art form.
Thus the deejays must have their place. Not everyone likes Franklin and Henry, but they have their place.
They cater for the more mature, and hence their programmes are fraught with poetry, philosophy and education. And also it is good to know that they are not in the propagandising business, as are the cases of Mr. Goolsarran, Mr. Subhan and Ms. Hermonstein.
These disemburse government spoofs, and they do it most inarticulately. The three, as heads of a national
communication network evince how inverted the society had become, and maybe, Michael, that is where the problem is.
Can you envisage the last three engaging in live broadcasts and open debates? Tell me please.
