The covers and wet ground tell the story as rain has the final say at Uitvlugt.
Overnight and early morning rain on the West Coast of Demerara forced an abandonment of the Trinidad and Tobago and Windward Islands’ West Indies’ Cricket Board President Cup One-Day Match yesterday at the Uitvlugt Ground.
The match was officially abandoned at 11am without a ball being bowled and both teams are expected to take one point following that development. The ground was prepared but was not handed over for the game’s commencement.
“We did some work yesterday afternoon and this morning but nothing to talk about since rain was falling steady,” some of the Grounds-men collectively told Kaieteur Sport at the Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground yesterday morning.
The development gave Windward Islands their first point of the tournament after failing against Combined Colleges and Campuses (CCC) on Wednesday, while Trinidad moves to three points following a win against Jamaica the same day.
Officially, a win is worth two points while an abandoned match allocates one point each to the two contesting teams.
The Windward Islands will play Jamaica today in their final Zone ‘A’ match at Enmore while Trinidad play CCC at Everest. (Edison Jefford)
