Lions celebrate “World Sight Day”
Teachers aiding children in being registered by lions club members
The Lions club of D’urban Park has been commemorating World Sight Day for the past decade and has offered its services to those in need.
This year, the eye clinic was hosted at the Guyana Cricket Club on Monday.
According to Lion Denise Bowdie, “Last year we had 300 children whose eyes were tested and who were provided with free spectacles.
“In addition, we had two surgeries done. Five doctors offered their services to assist 150 children from five schools. The doctors were Dr. Michelle Ming, Dr. Dionne Fries, Dr. George Norton, Dr. Jose Da Silva, and Dr.Daniel Quaicoe.
The students came from Tucville, East La Penitence, St. Pius, St Sidwell’s and Enterprise Primary Schools.
“We are trying to improve the children’s vision so that their concentration on schoolwork in the class room where the chalkboard is, would be the main focus to be enhanced.
According to Dr. Ming on this occasion of World Sight Day, “We are helping children by testing their eyes to find if they have refractive vision and at the end of this these children can come to my clinic where they can have a full eye examination freely done and they can have their glasses if needed at cost price.”
