Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation bounced back from a shaky start to defeat Courts Inc. by 23 runs and claim the Guyana Tapeball League ‘Company’s 10/10’ title when that tournament concluded over the past weekend.
Courts won the toss and invited GPHC to take first strike. Opening bowler, Delon Fraser, justified his captain’s decision by the end of the 5th over, taking 3 wickets with just 30 runs on the board.
The winning team then resorted to sensible batting and eventually posted 76-5 at the end of their allotted 10 overs. Alex Cully led the batting with a fighting 20 (2×4, 1×6).
Courts also started their reply shakily, losing their top four batsmen for only 20 runs. However, unlike the Hospital team, they never recovered and were eventually restricted to 53-9 at the end of their innings. Trevor Fraser (16) was the only batsman to offer any resistance in the face of incisive bowling from Jason Kellman (2-4).
Meanwhile, Sponsors XI defeated Broadband XI when the two teams faced off in an eight overs exhibition match earlier in the day.
Sponsors XI batted first and made 50-4 off their allotted 8 overs before restricting Broadband XI to 48-7.
President of the Guyana Tapeball League congratulated the winners while lauding the efforts of the organizers and sponsors.
