Corinne DeGroot drew first blood when she weighed in at 117.6lbs to Shondell Alfred’s 114.8lbs going into their bantamweight clash in the S&S/HEP Promotions card for the WIBA bantamweight title at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall tonight.
Obviously DeGroot would want to regard this as an advantage but Alfred shrugged it off as inconsequential.
Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore weighed in at 118.2lbs, a fraction above the specified bantamweight limit while Pastrana tipped the scales at 120lbs, two pounds over the limit. Moore opted to shed the extra pounds while Pastrana refused to do the same. This simply means that Pastrana has lost the title on the scales meaning that even if he wins he will not win the title by dint of his inability to make the specified weight. Should Moore lose the fight the title remains vacant.
Howard Eastman and Kevin Placide weighed in at an even 159lbs and so did Iwan Azore and Wayne Brings who both recorded an even 150lbs each. Dexter Marques weighed in at 121lbs, two more than his opponent, Hewley Robinson.
Fans are expected in their numbers to watch the much anticipate and hyped bout between the two ladies. Already, ticket sales have escalated with boxing buffs rushing to the various outlets to secure their passes early before they are all gone.
Alfred, will be required to pull out all the stops if she is to lift the crown while DeGroot will also be going all out for a win.
Alfred a know fighter, has honed her skills of recent and has employed boxing tactics. She is in the fight of her life and a determined ‘Mystery Lady’ is set to show up. Can the ‘Panther’ handle the ‘Mystery’ is anybody’s guess or visa versa. That will be determined in the main bout tonight.
Leon Moore and Mauricio Pastrana will collide in the supporting cast in what promises to be a humdinger of a scrap, which will set the tone for the main attraction.
