Dear Editor,
Can someone explain the meaning of a letter by PPP’s presidential hopeful, Ralph Ramkarran on my Friday column (18-09-09) in which I looked at his assertion that there is a period of racial unity emerging and it opens hope for political unity too.
I am at a loss to understand what this man has written in relation to that particular column of mine. I have asked several persons on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to explain it for me. For those who missed it, here is the letter (titled, “A pleasant surprise”) in its entirety.
“I am pleasantly surprised that Mr. Frederick Kissoon would take time off his busy writing schedule attacking President Jagdeo and Mr. Vishu Bisram to read my humble offering, albeit with a Freudian eye.
Unfortunately the higher perception accorded to special beings with the “eye” failed Mr. Kissoon when reading my article on Iran and my invitation to disaffected PNCR supporters to join the Civic. (End of letter)
Can someone explain what is going on with Mr. Ralph Ramkarran? Below is another esoteric letter from this presidentially ambitious Guyanese on me.
Titled, “Stop piggy-backing, Freddie Kissoon,” it is from the June 11th issue of Kaieteur News. Here is the entire letter;
“Frederick Kissoon describes what he writes as essays. Essayists find their own issues to write about.
What doesn’t Frederick Kissoon, the essayist, find his own subjects to write about, rather than piggybacking on what everybody else writes.” (End of letter)
Aren’t these strange rumblings coming from a man who wants to lead this nation in 2011? I really don’t understand any of these two, little emotional outbursts of Ralph Ramkarran.
What I do know based on my Ramkarran’s own admission is that he reads he Freddie Kissoon Column even though I piggyback on other people’s ideas and don’t have ideas of my own. Now this is very, very intriguing. Why read me when all I do is use up other writers’ ideas. Mr. Ramkarran should read those people instead of my essays
So what do I make of these two tiny compositions that say absolutely nothing? Mr. Ramkarran does not want to write and defend his theses. He cannot. Like all PPP leaders, his theses do not harmonize with the facts of history.
Mr. Ramkarran got an intellectual mauling at the hands of Dr. Hinds and Eusi Kwayana two months ago on the divisive role of the PPP in history.
One wonders if that incident has caused him to seek refuge in tiny letters that say absolutely nothing.
One suspects that Mr. Ramkarran has embarked on this frenetic writing campaign because he feels it will enhance his standing when the time comes to pick the PPP’s presidential candidate. I chose my word “pick” carefully.”
There isn’t going to be a competition for the slot. Mr. Jagdeo may choose himself or he will anoint the person he wants. Mr. Ramkarran should better wake up and smell the coffee
Frederick Kissoon
