Dear Editor,
How close did the PNCR ever came to regaining power after having been the main Opposition Party for the past seven years?
It did fairly well at the 1997 and 2001 national elections; but scored a modest 21 seats at the last national polls. How many will this party win at the upcoming 2011 national elections about 15 months away?
This will depend essentially on the support of the masses. The PNCR would have to do much more to convince the bulk of electors that it merits voting into power, instead of only tussle for party leadership.
Polling figures have shown that the PNCR lacks winning support, yet it is splitting up into Team Alexander, Team Corbin, Team Murray and Team Charles. This situation made me wonder if the PNCR is shifting from politics to sports.
These teams should be banded or united into one big team to mobilise effectively for future elections. It is significant to note that only one team wins a contest or competition.
Since PNCR means The People National Congress, this party is accountable to the people, broadly speaking some of whom have become disgusted of this team situation.
One of the essential reasons why the PNCR would have to do much more to win big support of the people is that politics is like sports.
The spectators evaluate keenly the performances of the various contestants or competitors, then support or back those with winning possibility or potential.
To gain support does not depend only on picketing exercises, eloquent campaign speeches and good manifestos.
The PNCR should go out into the fields to visits the slums, ghettos, schools, hospitals and prisons to have an on the spot awareness of what is actually happening to the people who are the voters or electors.
The PNCR would have to do much more to gain massive support and ultimately victory at the national polls.
