The inaugural Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Inter-Block Basketball championship that was initiated in Linden a few weeks ago promptly moved to East Berbice, Corentyne with Rose Hall Jammers winning against Fyrish.

Kaieteur Sport understands that the event in Corentyne has been in the pipelines for some time now but was finally initiated despite the “enormous responsibilities attached to the organising of such an event” in the Berbice district.
Those responsibilities are related to the “lack of regular competitions for team within the region”, a release reaching this newspaper yesterday indicated. However, the competition was still able to get underway with a solitary game.
Rose Hall Jammers defeated Fyrish 55-38 on Sunday at Rose Hall Town’ Area ‘H’ court after Jammers found their range early in the game and established a sizeable advantaged at halftime, leading 40-19 at the mid-game break.
While details of the game are sketchy (pertaining to individual top scorers etc.), Kaieteur Sport knows that the ministry’s Inter-Block Basketball was initiated in Corentyne, which is welcome development for local basketball.
The tournament in Corentyne is expected to continue on Sunday when Fyrish will search for a win against Liverpool in the only game scheduled. Parliamentary Secretary, Steve Ninvalle will formally issue a statement this week.
Meanwhile, in Linden, Silvertown Scheme gained a walkover against ½ /1 Mile/Canvas City combined while First, Second and Third Alley/Valley blew away Block 22/Wisroc 93-48 at the Mackenzie Sports Club court.
Chris Williams scored 22 for Valley while Marlon Pollydore ended with 16 points while Steven Couchman and Alwyn Rodney finished with 12 points each. Block 22’s, Gavin and Patrick Clarke scored 17 and 10 points each for them.
