Everest and GNIC will face-off from noon today at Bourda in the 3-day final of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Cellink 3-day first division cricket competition after registering semi-final wins last weekend.
Action tomorrow and on Sunday will commence at 09:30hrs and both teams are confident of lifting the trophy after intense practice sessions this week.
Everest, who qualified for the final by getting past DCC in the semi-finals, will again miss their leading player and former Skipper Sauid Drepaul who is unavailable and will depend on former national youth opener Chris Patandin to continue his good form with the bat.
Ryan Ramdass, who played his solitary Test in Sri Lanka four years ago, scored a ton on his return to local cricket last month and if he gets going he could provide plenty of entertainment for the fans.
The versatile Troy Gonsalves will also hope to enhance his chance of selection on the Demerara team for the GCB competitions later this month with good work (bat & ball) while Wicket Keeper Joseph Perry has also been among the runs this season for the camp road side.
Former West Indies under-19 batsman Rajendra Chandrika, Ryan Rajmangal, the experienced Surendra Herilall and skipper Abilash Dookie will also need to contribute with the bat on what is anticipated to be a flat track and lightning fast outfield.
West Indies under-15 leg-spinner Amir Khan could also have a lot of work to do with the ball for an Everest attack generally banking on spin.
The return of former national under-19 pacer Leon Scott from a successful contract in Scotland should also spark interest and give some fire-power to the Everest attack.
GNIC, who whipped Malteenoes in their semi-final clash, will be without their leading wicket-taker Clyde Butts for today’s encounter while First Class pacer Rayon Griffith is also out of the country.
The GNIC batting should hinge on the work of national under-17 opener Quincy Ovid Richardson, Shawn DeSouza, Ronale Bourne, David Dick, Jermaine Moe, Ken Alphonso, national under-17 captain Dexter Solomon and Martin Rajmangal, who will be on opposing sides with his brother Ryan.
In the absence of the veteran Butts, his son Collis will lead the Woolford Avenue team and could have plenty of work to do with his off-spin in what is expected to be sultry conditions. Bourne’s leg-spin could also be utilized for long periods.
A sponsorship cheque worth $750,000.00 is expected to be officially presented by the sponsors to the GCA before the start of play today.
