A teenager who rescued his mother from his stepfather’s blows is now a patient in the High Dependency Unit of the Georgetown Hospital.
He is nursing severe chops about his body, a fractured skull, and chances are he may loose the use of his right leg.

Hospitalised is Anil Persaud age 19, of lot 143 East Lusignan.
Leilawattie Narine, 33, who is nursing a black eye, identified the attacker as her husband of six years, Suresh Iswardeen, who had subjected her to years of physical abuse.
She described her husband who has since gone into hiding as being “jealous” of her ex-husband.
The woman admitted that she has been communicating with her ex-husband regularly with regards to his children.
Recounting yesterday’s events, she said at about 11:50hrs she received a call from her ex-husband who asked for Anil. The young man was not around at the time and upon arriving a few minutes later, he was told to call his father (Vernon Persaud).
His stepfather became enraged and punched his mother in the face causing an immediate ‘black eye’.
Out of concern for his mother, Anil intervened and asked “wha yu nack me mother fah?” This angered the raging step father who threatened that he would “chop up Anil.”
The told this newspaper that seconds later as she headed to the kitchen, “he draw a cutlass and start firing chop like crazy.”
She recalled that as she stood helplessly, “me see he chap Anil in he head, he back, all over and he chap off he knee. Then he run away.”
Anil was rushed to the hospital and into the Emergency room, where medial officials discovered a chop wound measuring almost four inches long to his right side head, from which they could have seen into his skull.
Sources there said he suffered a fractured skull and chances are he might loose his right leg.
The young man also has chop wounds to his shoulder and his wrist.
When Kaieteur News arrived at the hospital, the teen was being rushed into surgery while his mother was being tended to for the swollen ‘black eye’.
Expressing regrets that she did not report the abuse earlier to the police, she said she was subject to years of physical abuse but never thought that it would have escalated to the point of her son being almost killed by her abusive husband.
However, following yesterday’s experience she said “me husband was jealous of me ex-husband but he had no need to be because he only used to call for them children. But every time the phone ring he (the Husband) use to get vex and beat me.”
She explained while the abuser is the father of her youngest child, her desire is to have him arrested and the law take its full course.
The woman and the abuser lived together for six years.
