Dear Editor,
The Supenaam Stelling had/have an issue with the pontoon that floats the on/off ramp at the mooring end; the pontoon could not float with its bottom horizontal except for a particular height of water. This will eventually fatigue the attachment points to failure.
1. Roll-on/Roll-off normally load and unload via bow and stern.
2. The on/off ramp faces east.
3. The tides at this place flows North-South
This means that the ferry will have its length perpendicular to the tide. The tide will induce a turning-force on the ferry, trying to twist it away from its moorings. I do not know if this was calculated for but the simple solution will be to extend the current ramp by placing an additional pontoon and mooring either north-south or south north depending on the tide.
Question: why are we still using Adventure Stelling? Can we not use this stelling as is for the existing vessels? Mohamed F. Khan
