Morris Roberts yesterday appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, charged with the murder of Martin Daniels.
It is alleged that on August 16th last, Roberts and Daniels were together involved in self help work along the Essequibo River in the North West District area.
Reports state that there was drinking among the workers, after which an argument erupted between the two men. The accused then allegedly picked up an object and proceeded to hit the victim over the head several times with it.
An unconscious Daniels was rushed to the Mabaruma Hospital by public spirited citizens, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
Roberts, who was not required to plea, was remanded to prison until November 17.
