Intermittent rainfall postponed the senior East versus West All-star basketball game at the Mackenzie Sports Club court in Linden Friday night, leaving many fans and both teams noticeably unenthusiastic ahead of a new date.
While the organisers could not give an alternative date for the much-anticipated Retrieve Raiders planned fundraiser, Linden Amateur Basketball Association President, Abdullah Hamid said he is trusting God for good weather.
“The weather keeps pushing our programmes back; it is the biggest stress for the association but we are praying for good weather to get the programme on stream,” he told Kaieteur Sport following the development yesterday.
Hamid confirmed that there will be new dates for the event, since that is usually a natural outcome when the association sanctions events. He could not say when the game will be held, but stated clearly that good weather must prevail.
The All-star senior game was originally set for CARICOM Day, Monday last, but heavy rain had pushed the event to Friday night. The inaugural Showtime game was expected to ignite a lasting rivalry among the East and West of Linden.
