Both Canada and El Salvador scored late goals to record victories in the opening games of the Gold Cup, at a sold out Home Depot Centre on Friday evening.
In the first game, it was Ali Gerba who scored the all-important goal, with 75 minutes on the clock, to give Canada a victory in their Group ‘A’ encounter with Digicel Caribbean Champions Jamaica.
In the other match-up of the evening, El Salvador defeated their Central American rivals, Costa Rica, with a double from Osael Romero; the decisive goal coming just three minutes from the final whistle.
Group ‘B’ got underway last evening at Qwest Field in Seattle. The first game saw Honduras facing Haiti before Grenada, in their inaugural Gold Cup appearance, took on the USA.
This is the second time Gold Cup games have been played in Seattle – the previous occasion was in 2005.
