Base Camp Stephenson Combined Officers were roundly trounced by the Combined Officer’s Base Camp Ayanganna on Wednesday at the conclusion of the inaugural Inter-Base Officers 20/20 cricket competition which was played on the Drill Square, at Base Camp Ayanganna.
Midshipman Dane Haynes led the charge for Base Camp Ayanganna (BC (A) Officers, scoring 58 runs. Commodore Gary Best, led the demolition of BC (S), bowling three overs – for attractive figures of 4-7. BC (A) lost only two wickets as they accumulated 92 runs to secure the win.
Haynes, who also bowled two overs and captured two wickets for 10 runs, was named man-of-the-match.
Base Camp Stephenson Officers were 88 all out after being sent in to bat by Base Camp Ayanganna Officers, who had won the toss. Captain James Fraser was the highest scorer for BC(S) with 26 runs. The best bowler for BC (S) was Lieutenant Colonel Enoch Gaskin, who bowled one over and took 2-6.
Wednesday’s match was organised as part of the Force’s Health and Wellness Programme which seeks to encourage all Officers and ranks of the Guyana Defence Force to vigorously pursue healthy living and lifestyles through sports and healthy eating.
In addition, the match, which will played quarterly, promotes esprit de corp among the Officers and Ranks of the Force.
