Dear Editor,
Notices from the Ministry of Home Affairs about noise-makers in Guyana are in the daily newspapers. Though this is a welcoming move to the Ministry finally recognising this problem, the proof would only be when we begin to see people being brought and tried before the courts.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, according to the notice, seems to be handing the issue over to the police, who we all know are ever so efficient when carrying out their duties. Let’s hope that they do take action against these people and even organisations (churches) that are listed in the notice.
Furthermore, how could the Ministry not find a single entity/home/business/church in Region Six (East Berbice Corentyne) that violated the noise nuisance law? I think some mistake has been made there.
Maybe a proper investigation has not been carried out in Berbice. Maybe whoever carried out the investigations from the Ministry did not come at the right time.
Berbice is one of the “hot-spots” where people play their music and even churches behave as if God is deaf on a daily basis. According to the notice, there was only one listing of a violator from Berbice. Impossible! Leon Jameson Suseran
