Wakenaam woman found dead
A 66-year-old Wakenaam widow who lived alone, was discovered shortly after 13:00 hrs yesterday, lying in a pool of blood in her yard at Lot 16 Zeelandia Village, Wakenaam Island. Dhanmattie, known as Mary, was seen by villagers about an hour earlier relaxing on her platform at the front of her house.
Another villager reportedly observed her lying near the back steps of her house and raised an alarm. Several neighbours rushed across and observed that the woman appeared dead.
There was a gaping wound on the right side of her head, which is suspected to have been sustained during a fall when she supposedly hit her head on a plank on the ground.
On a drum nearby, was a glass of water and a mirror, while a tooth brush was on the ground nearby.
The police were called in and are currently investigating the matter.
The body will be taken for a post mortem examination.
