Muslims should embrace Obama’s message

America’s President, Barack Obama has set an agenda for change in the way the world see Islam and how Muslims see the world – a major difference in foreign policy from his predecessor.
Although a significant percentage of the Guyanese population are Muslims, the President’s comments and appeals to the Muslim world do not have relevance to Guyanese Muslims because they are mainstream and moderate in their views.
They do not subscribe to the extremist views practiced by some Muslims especially in the East and are with America and the world in the battle against terror.
He spoke with sincerity and great hope. Muslims everywhere should embrace Obama’s new beginning.
The President is a great orator and brilliant speaker. He spoke respectfully and avoided the use to the word “terrorist”. He called for reconciliation and an end to discord and suspicion between Muslims and non-Muslims.
He said America is not at war with Islam but with a small number of Muslims who taint the religion with their demented minds.
He wants to have a new beginning and stretching out his hands to Muslims everywhere.
He delivered a simple speech with an important message appealing to Muslims worldwide to work together with the rest of the world to promote peace, harmony and stability.
In his masterful speech to Muslims at Cairo University, the President praised Islam and Muslims for their many contributions to the world including to the U.S. But he feels much more need to be done by Muslims to combat threat not only to the West but also to the lives of Muslims globally. Radical Muslims seek to kill and maim those not in agreement with them and those not subscribing to their version of Islam.
Obama called on Muslims and the world to work together to root out the Islamic extremists who are wreaking havoc all around the globe and who want to end the gains made by Muslims returning them back to the medieval age.
He said we must reject the evils of those whose thoughts and actions are bent on terrorizing the world.
The President called for a “new beginning between the United States and Muslims” urging them “to confront violent extremism across the globe and advance the timeless search for peace in the Middle East”.
And he mentioned how Islam influenced his life and those of his African ancestors.
He said “the cycle of suspicion and discord between Muslims and Americans must end’’.
I agree. It is time to assuage the hurt feelings of Muslims. The suspicions cast on Muslims in America must end.
Muslims should feel free to move around in America and in passing through immigration borders. Also, the entire globe should work together to improve the living standard of all, including poor Muslims in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
Muslims should embrace Obama’s message and enact his appeal. Muslims must reject the Islamic extremists!
