The 8th Annual Schools Independence Volleyball Championship – sponsored by the National Sports Commission -will serve off tomorrow, at the West Demerara Secondary School from 09:00hrs.
According to a release, those expected to be present at the Opening Ceremony are Honourable Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport Dr. Frank Anthony, Director of Sports Mr. Neil Kumar and President of the Guyana Volleyball Federation Lennox Shuffler.
The defending champions are (Male): Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary School and (Female) Patentia Secondary School. However, these teams will have to compete strongly against the 2009 Mashramani winners (Male) St. John’s and (Female) Institute of Professional Education.
Among the other schools expected to participate are: West Demerara, Professional Learning Institute, School of the Nations, Stewartville, Zeeburg, Wales, St Stanislaus College, Institute of Business Education and Goed Fortuin.
This Championship has in the past produced players who represented Guyana at the Under-19 level and who are presently in the National Squad.
