Rangers Sports Club (RSC) defeated Zeeburg Warriors by 20 runs on Sunday to become the first team to advance to the quarter-finals of the Trophy Stall 15 overs nationwide softball competition.
RSC fell for122 in 14.1 overs with Riaz Karim making 46 with 5 sixes and a 4 and added 44 off 32 balls with Diaram Persaud (18). However, 5 wickets fell for 12 runs due to some accurate bowling by Madhya Dhanpaul (4-13) and Balbinder Persaud (3-18) as RSC were never allowed to accelerate their scoring.
In reply, Zeeburg Warriors lost 2 wickets with 3 runs on the board and only Ganesh Narine (36) and Riaz Ali (18) offered resistance, as they fell for 102 in 13.2 overs. Asif Saffie took 4-12 and Dhanraj Champalall 3-10 for RSC who will play the winners of the Berbice zone.
Scotsburg United take on the Orealla Champions and Fyrish Youths, led by former Guyana 20/20 player Imran Khan, face Siperuta Champions this weekend in the Berbice zone.
Meanwhile, National champions Regal XI will tackle unbeaten Ariel XI this weekend after the rain interrupted their match on Sunday last at Eve Leary.
The match between unbeaten Trophy Stall XI and Farm Masjid, which was postponed due to the inclement weather, will be played on a date to be announced.
In the Essequibo zone, three teams (Young Warriors, United Brothers, and Die Hard XI) are locked at the top of the points table and this weekend’s action will decide which of the teams make it to the quarter-finals.
