Workers applying the finishing touches to the Lethem road
The spanking new Brazilian Consular Office at Lethem will soon open its doors to the public
Infrastructural work to facilitate the soon to be opened Takatu Bridge linking Guyana and Brazil is almost complete.
The completion of the various supporting infrastructures, which include roads, is expected to coincide with the opening of the bridge. The opening is temporarily slated for next month.
The bridge has already been paved and similar works on the approaching roads are nearing completion.
Lights have already been installed, and according to residents of the Lethem community, the ambiance is breathtaking.
The spanking new Brazilian Consular Office, which will greatly facilitate problem-free travel from both sides of the border, has been completed.
At present, senior police officials, including traffic chiefs are in the area to fine tune security and traffic arrangements.
While vehicular traffic is not permitted on the new bridge, several pedestrians and cyclists are using the opportunity to travel to and from Brazil on the structure.
Engineers from the Brazilian military built the bridge and it is expected to greatly enhance trade between the continental neighbours.
