Dear Editor,
It is beyond human imagination and indeed sad to read in your edition of Friday 6th, 2009 that Mr. Russell Cornelius will not be given any compensation from Noble House Sea Foods for loosing both legs due to an accident while on duty as a sailor.
Since Noble House Sea Foods claims that the trawler was contracted to the captain, there are many questions to be answered. Does the contract satisfy all legal requirements? Does the working condition on the trawler satisfy all safety requirements? Are the crew members provided with safety gears? Does the Captain pay PAYE and NIS contribution for his crew?
This matter needs to be fully investigated by the relevant authorities so as to ensure that Mr. Cornelius receives whatever compensation or benefits are due to him from Noble House Sea Foods and the Captain of the trawler. He is now without both legs and has a family to maintain. Jaipersaud
