Attorney Hukumchand, representing the defendant, did not elaborate the details of what happened on the day in question, but did state that the virtual complainant lives opposite the accused.
“Your Worship, the girl is no stranger to the police and the welfare officers.”
He said that his client poses no flight risk and to compound the issue, he is a diabetic who suffers from hypertension.
“Your Worship I will say no more. My client is willing to have the matter go to trial.”
In the end he asked that bail be granted at reasonable amount.
The prosecution in a plea to have bail refused said that “these types of offences are a sore eye in the country.”
Bail was refused and the case was transferred to the Providence Magistrate Court for today.
