High profile prisoner Dwight Da Silva appeared in court yesterday for allegedly assaulting Dasslyn Grandingston, a female prison officer at the Camp Street Prison.
It is alleged that Da Silva, on January 30, 2009, unlawfully wounded the prison officer. He pleaded guilty before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
According to the defendant, he was totally unaware as to why the police brought him to court. “They just come to me and say that I got a court order to appear before you,” Da Silva explained to the magistrate.
He was further remanded to prison, and is expected to make his next court appearance on February 12.
Da Silva is already before the courts charged with the slaying of the five Kaieteur News pressmen in 2006.
