Alleged gold band snatcher shot
Kevin Williams, 23, was shot in the thigh, at around 07:10 hrs yesterday, in Lombard Street, Georgetown, after allegedly snatching a woman’s gold band.
A police release said that Lalita Shivgobin, of Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, was on Croal Street when Williams, of Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara, snatched her gold band.
An alarm was raised and several public spirited persons pursued Williams, who fled down Lombard Street.
They were joined by an armed policeman who, in efforts to arrest Williams, shot the suspect in his right upper thigh.
The gold band was recovered.
Kevin Williams was medically treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital and is now in police custody.
