13 graduate from Gafoor’s computer training programme

The Alexander Village Mosque was on Sunday the venue for the graduation ceremony for the Gafoor-sponsored computer training programme.
Thirteen young people graduated from the course, which saw them develop proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point programmes. It also taught them the basics in the use of the Internet and e-mail.
While Gafoor’s does provide assistance to those in need, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gafoor’s, Abdool Sattaur Gafoor, said that there are some individuals who approach the business entity for a chance to develop themselves and their lives. “They are not asking for a handout, they are asking for a chance to make themselves better.”
Since many people want to earn their own livelihood, but often times do not have the requisite skills, the computer training programme has equipped the graduates with the skills that they can use to earn a living, said Gafoor.
“We have brought self independence to people,” said the CEO of Gafoor’s.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the CEO of Gafoor’s said that the training programme was just part of the Gafoor’s efforts to give back to the community and to help people who were in need.
The Imam of the Alexander Village mosque, Brother Musa, noted that learning is an important aspect of life. He said that learning is a form of worship.
He encouraged the graduates to never stop in their quest for knowledge.
Gafoor’s has, over the years, helped various religious groups which have approached the hardware entity for assistance. Gafoor’s has assisted the 125 mosques all over Guyana, and is instrumental in a programme which provides lunch for some 100 children and old folks in the Albouystown area on a daily basis.
Last year, Gafoor’s also built four homes for people whose homes were destroyed by fire. Significant help has also been afforded to single parent families all across Guyana.
