The body of Guyanese Kofi Wiltshire was retrieved from the water just off the coast of Dieppe Bay, Antigua, at approximately 7:00 hours on Tuesday, after a search party had spent two days searching for him and coming up empty handed.
The young man was on holiday in Antigua, and was scheduled to return to Guyana on the same day his body was recovered.
Reports have said that Wiltshire had drowned on Sunday afternoon when he attempted to swim back to the beach from a sailboat on which he had been with his friends. The boat was approximately 50 yards from the beach when Wiltshire decided he would swim back to the beach.
The deceased was apparently asked by one of his companions if he could swim, and he had responded that he could swim and that swimming back to the beach would not be hard for him.
He had also removed his life jacket earlier, because he said he was not feeling comfortable with it on.
When Wiltshire began to experience difficulties, he apparently called out for help, but his friends and other people in the vicinity were unable to reach him in time to help him.
A search for the body was mounted, but it turned up no results until yesterday morning.
