Guyana’s #1 indoor hockey team Hikers continued their inspiring run at the Sixth Annual Ventures Invitational Tournament which continued last Thursday and yesterday, at the Woodbrook Youth Centre in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Guyanese fresh off a convincing win against Canada’s Ontario United won against T&T Defence Force and drew their other encounter against a strong Petrotrin side that included national Wayne Legerton.
In their clash against T&T Defence Force, Hikers inflicted a crushing 11-1 triumph with Robert France netting a helmet-trick, while Captain Devin Munroe, Jerazeno. Bell and Alex Gouveia each blasted in a brace. Guest player Ryan Cowie completed the tally.
Neil Lashley made the lone response for the Army.
In the other game, Hikers squandered a healthy 4-1 halftime advantage to scrape a 5-5 draw. They had trailed 4-5 with two minutes remaining, before Bell converted a penalty corner to gain the equaliser.

The men on target for Hikers were Devin Munroe and Robert France, who each netted a double, while Bell scored the other. For Petrotrin, Legerton poured in a hat-trick, while there was one apiece for Dwayne Quan Chan and Atiba Whittinton.
Another local team Old Fort went down to Queens Park ‘A’ 5-7. At halftime Old Fort trailed 2 – 4 and didn’t recover.
On target for Old Fort were Kevin Spencer (guest player from GCC), who slammed in a pair, while Aderemi Simon, John Abrams and Tony Cole scored one each.

At half time, the teams were deadlocked at 2 – 2.
The scorers from Old Fort were Jason De Santos with a double, while Christopher Low-Koan, Tony Cole and Spencer each contributed.
Their chances of reaching the semi finals seem slim since.
It was reported that all the teams are playing at a high level, but the locals are matching them.
