Govt. has failed residents of N/A miserably

Is New Amsterdam part of Region Six or even a part of Guyana? New Amsterdam had its opening ceremony for its 2008 Town Day celebrations on Thursday last, but when the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Mr. Manniram Prashad and the Regional Chairman of the Regional office were called to the podium, they were nowhere to be seen.
They didn’t even bother to send representatives, or give excuses for not being there. This shows blatant disrespect to the citizens of New Amsterdam.
There has been discussion about Berbice seceding from the central Government. It’s not a bad idea for New Amsterdam seceding from the central and Regional Government.
Also, the Town Day committee was not granted permission to use the lawns of State House in New Amsterdam to host the pageant during the three-day long celebrations. It’s not that the Ministry did not know about Town Day 2008. Town Day has always been a calendar event.
It is rather shameful that they (the government) did refuse the Town Day committee the use of the State House lawns but it is a refusal to the entire citizens of the township of New Amsterdam.
What is even more shocking (but was expected) is that the ruling party has planned a set of events this weekend, which I believe is a deliberate attempt to pull attention away from the New Amsterdam Town Day celebrations.
That is so sinister. There are several cricket competitions in the night and day in Canje this weekend, sponsored by the ruling party.
These people have no right to call themselves leaders, and they don’t deserve our respect…I know that these people were notified by mail and telephone calls; I was at all the Town Day meetings.
The citizens of New Amsterdam should not forget this day. This is a day when our Government failed us miserably.
