Johnny Griffith, 7, of 167 Waterloo Street, was yesterday admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, nursing lacerations to the face and arms.
The accident occurred in the vicinity of the Waterloo and Middle Streets junction around 17:50 hours, according to hospital officials.
Griffith was hit by motorcycle CE 5678, ridden by Delon Forde, who said that he was heading west along Waterloo Street, when the boy “let go of his sister’s hand” and ran into the path of the bike. He said that he immediately rushed to render assistance to the injured child.
But this claim was refuted by a guard who was stationed at the Christ Church. She said that the child was walking with his sister; the motorcyclist was coming towards them at a rapid rate and collided with the lad.
The woman further told this newspaper that man was heard shouting for the two children to get out of the way. She added that the two children were almost in the corner of the road when the accident happened.
The child’s mother was inconsolable at the hospital. She said that this is the second time that the child had been hit in the head.
Police are investigating the matter and the cyclist, up to press time, was in police custody. This is the fourth accident for the week and police are urging drivers to be more vigilant on the roadways.
