Bountiful yields lie ahead for rice farmers

Dear Editor,
I was pleased to be invited to the International Rice Conference as a farmer, to participate in discussions and listen to presentations delivered by members of Government and technical officers within the rice sector, locally and abroad.

The conference has been really beneficial to me and my fellow rice farmers. As such, I would like to congratulate the organisers, in particular the Ministry of Agriculture, for hosting a successful event which allowed the interaction of farmers, millers, scientists, and not forgetting the overseas delegates.

I am most pleased to have been invited to this event, as I have learnt how to improve my current farming activities and to supplement my income by reducing the cost of production.

Listening to what the international experts and scientists had to say was very comforting for me as a farmer, knowing the uncertainty of the global rice market.

I am now more convinced that the rice industry is continually expanding, and will provide lucrative returns for rural farmers with the support from the Ministry of Agriculture. I would like to point out that planting rice is a way of life for a rice farmer.

Much care and effort must be put into each crop, to ensure good yields, resulting in food on our tables and that of many other countries that consume rice as part of their diets.

I therefore would like to use this opportunity to salute my fellow hard working and dedicated rice farmers, and to say good yields await us.
