The stung carpenter, Julian Lilly lying in vehicle tray
A carpenter and a family of six were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday, after they were stung by Africanized bees in Meadow Brook.
Reports are that Tasha Jonas, her sister Asanti Sankar, and Jonas’s four children were on their way home when they came into contact with the killer bees.
Upon seeing the woman and her children — all toddlers — being attacked, a carpenter who was nearby attempted to rescue the children but was badly stung as well.
The man has been identified as 40-year-old Julian Lilly. Following the incident, which at occurred some time around midday yesterday, the seven persons were rushed by public-spirited citizens to the Davis Memorial Hospital.
However, they were all subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Up to press time yesterday, it was not clear how many of the seven persons were hospitalised.
Residents of the area claimed that the nest has been in a particular tree for several months. One resident said that, on more that one occasion, his household contacted the Ministry of Agriculture for assistance in removing the bees, but that never happened.
“Every time we call, they tell us that they don’t climb trees and they can’t remove the bees, and that we should call the professionals,” one resident said.
