With just 4 days to go before D-day in the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club International Meeting at the South Dakota Circuit, fans could expect a full day of exciting racing, especially in the Group 4 category.
This is according to Jamaican Kenroy Brooks, who is the Chief Mechanic of defending Caribbean champion Doug Gore, who also hails from that country.
Brooks was speaking with Kaieteur Sport shortly before leaving for the South Dakota Circuit to test the reliability of the Mitsubishi Evolution 5 car and to ensure that the new engine undergo the ‘breaking in’ phase ahead of Gore’s arrival last evening.
Brooks responding to whether he thinks the car can compete satisfactorily with the other drivers in the highly touted Group 4 division said that his last performances here can testify to that.
“You must remember that the last time we were here, we won the first race and then developed gear box problems, but still went on to place second in the next event, so you see the results are there to prove that we can be competitive,” Brooks explained.
Brooks added that even though the car is best suited for the track back in Jamaica, he felt that the one in Guyana is not as difficult as that in Barbados and fully expects the team to garner positive results come Sunday.
Gore currently in fourth place in the Caribbean Series, is a strong contender to improve on that and could possibly secure a higher placing in the International segment.
“At Bushy Park in Barbados, we encountered turbo problems which prevented us from participating in the qualifying sessions, forcing us to start from the back of the grid and that effectively placed us in a difficult spot,” Brooks recalled.
He cautioned that should everything go according to plan, Gore would be a formidable foe, warning fellow competitors in the category to watch out for the master at work.
In the Caribbean segment, Douglas Maloney of Barbados leads the points standing on 35 points followed by Stuart Maloney also of Barbados on 30 points, David Summerbell Jr. of Jamaica is in third place with 26 points, while teammate Doug “Hollywood” Gore, the 2007 defending champion is in fourth place with 25 points and Andrew King of Guyana on 23 points round out the top five contenders.
