A 23-year-old motorcyclist perished, at around 22:15 hrs last night, several hours after slamming into the back of a truck near Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara.
The victim, Adrian Benons, of Land of Canaan, reportedly lost control of his motorcycle while travelling at a fast rate on the East Bank Demerara public road.
According to eyewitnesses, Benons, who was heading to Georgetown, had just overtaken three vehicles when he crashed into the back of the truck.
He was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, but was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) because of the severity of his injuries.
Benons’s mother said she learnt of the accident at around 14:30 hrs from one of her son’s friends, who told her that she should come now “because meh son deh fold up on de road”.
The woman said she left everything and rushed to her only son.
When Kaieteur News arrived at the GPHC, Benons was still alive, and his mother was praying that her son, who has a small daughter, would survive.
However, he eventually succumbed in the Intensive Care Unit.
