Buxton United beat Ann’s Grove, Bakewell Buxton Stars lose to Mahaica
The young Buxton United Football Club (BUFC) continued their fair tale run in the Mackeson senior league on the East Coast of Demerara when they recorded a 2-1 win over Mahaica on Sunday at the Buxton ground.
BUFC, competing in their first season at this level maintain pole position ahead of their much more seasoned rivals.
The league’s leading goal scorer Clive Andries opened the scoring for BUFC in the 52nd minute after a goalless first half.
Five minutes later Ann’s Grove evened the score when Dwayne Peters’ shot found the back of the nets, but Buxton United sealed full points in the 70th minute compliments of an Orson Washington goal.
In the afternoon’s other match up, Bakewell Buxton Stars did not fear that well against former East Coast power houses Mahaica who prevailed 2-0.
In the bruising encounter, Tremaine Richmond broke the deadlock in the 77th minute with the security strike coming off the boot of Colin Peters eight minutes before full time.
Action is set to continue tomorrow evening at the Plaisance Community Centre ground.
Meanwhile, in the lone fixture of the East Demerara Football Association’s under-15 competition, Buxton United and BV triumph United battled to a 0-0 stalemate.
