Woman collapses in court after sons remanded

Nineteen-year-old Shawn Chan and his 15-year-old brother were remanded to prison by acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates Court.

It is alleged that between January1 and April1, at Sussex Street Charlestown, the two had carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 15. They both pleaded not guilty to the charge.

After hearing that bail was denied, the mother of the defendants collapsed in the court room, claiming that people were in Camp Street jail waiting to “kill her sons.”

The two are expected to make their next court appearance on October 15, 2008.
