Devonshire Castle and Ravens will clash in what is expected to be an exiting final of the Sheriff Memorial 20/20 cricket competition in North Essequibo after recording contrasting victories in their respective semi-final matches last Sunday at the Anna Regina Community Centre ground.
In the day’s first match, Devonshire Castle defeated Walton Hall by 6 wickets. In a match which was reduced to 16 overs due to early morning showers. Walton Hall took first strike and made 123 for 5 off their allotted overs.
Khemraj Samsundar top scored with 29 while Navin Bahadur supported with 20. Dharamdeo Lall was the pick off the bowlers for Devonshire Castle with 3 – 19. In reply Devonshire Castle hit off the required runs in 15.5 overs ending on 126 for 4.
Basil Persaud was the leading run getter with 34 while Lall returned with the bat to hit 33. Uvendra Balgobin and David Wallace took two wickets each in a losing cause for Walton Hall.
In the second semi-final Ravens got past Gunners by 28 runs. Ravens batted first and made 144 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs.
Kassim Bacchus made 33 and Elroy Stephney 26, while pacer Grayson Paul captured 2 – 25 for Gunners who in their turn at the crease could only muster 116 for 8 off their allotted 20 overs.
Ramzan Rasul top scored with 25 and Marvin Singh contributed 23 as off spinner Stephney showed his allround ability by capturing 4 – 16 while Laxmikant Narine took 3 – 18 for Ravens. The final will be played at the Anna Regina Community Centre ground on October 12th.
