The Demerara zone of the Neal and Massy 40-overs National Club competition will climax today when Mavericks of West Demerara lock horns with Georgetown champions Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
Play starts at 9:30 hrs between the two teams to determine a winner and runner up going forward to the finals also involving the winners of Essequibo and Berbice.
Two Demerara teams are going forward this year by virtue of Demerara’s Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) defeating the Narsingh Deonarine led Albion in the last final at the National Stadium, Providence.
DCC are clear favorites for this clash with a line-up which includes national player Christopher Barnwell who is in smashing form at the moment and other well known names such and Jamal Hinkson.
They would be mindful of the challenge of Mavericks however, which poses an unblemished record being the only unbeaten team in their Zone.
They would be relying on the fast bowling of Dion Carew and spin attack of Shaun Jairaj and Mavericks captain and former Guyana player Rabindranauth Seeram. They will also expect their batsmen to be consistent as in the earlier round.
