DEAR EDITOR,
Though it is a major challenge that faces the tourism advocates in convincing foreigners to let Guyana be one of their destinations, I must applaud those individuals in their continued struggles and dedication towards this sector.
GEMS Inc. creation of the mini tourist handbook, “Guyana…Where and What,” which was recently launched, is just another step to encourage visitors to visit and have a rewarding experience.
Thank you to the business community for your sponsorship of ads. The field staff soliciting ads should be credited, for it is no easy task securing ads, and the graphic artists who are always behind and producing incredible work.
Ads in the book that really created an impression are as follows:
Moksha…Centre for Holistic Health Therapy, NT Computeac, Palace De Leon Apartments & Suites andUpscale Restaurant.
Artist Merlene Ellis did an awesome cover design, and I hope that the creator of the book is now open to suggestions.
In the next edition, allow the layout of ads to be wide; spread for too many on a page can become busy for the eyes, especially for the size of the book.
Increase the size of the book.
Allow a page or two for comments from visitors who would have visited in the past as the run-up to your next issue.
Work in collaboration with the Education and Amerindian Ministries respectively, and try to get schools involved by submitting photos, drawings, etc. from all regions. We all have to contribute, and I think that we need to shift our focus away from the run-of-the-mill places that keep appearing in almost all tourism literature readings.
Target “The Mining Sector” for sponsorship of any kind towards the development of Guyana’s Eco-Tourism, for they have a responsibility to give back to the soil that they get extremely great rewards from.
T. Pemberton
