New kids on the bloc, BK International Western Tigers continue to show that they are a class above the rest when they mauled an ordinary looking Beacon 6-1, thanks to a helmet-trick by ‘Golden Jaguar’ Devon Millington on Wednesday evening when action in the Banks Beer division-one league continued at the Banks DIH Thirst Park ground.
It was the Millington show as he had the Beacon defence busy all night, at times doing what he felt like with the ball and all they could have done was take in the lessons.
His third goal, which came in the 56th minute, was a classic, after collecting the ball just outside the box he weaved his way past several defenders and was confronted by the keeper with the defence in pursuit.
Millington faked him to the right then to the left as if he had all the time in the world, and still had a few seconds to easily pat the ball into goal to the amusement of his fellow players and the small crowd on hand. His other goals were scored in the 30th, 40th and 88th minute.
Nedd Fraser opened the scoring in the 10th minute while Edison Gomes added one of his own seven minutes later. A defensive error was responsible for Beacon’s lone effort in the 18th minute.
The Tigers who where relegated from the Premier ranks to this level, have vowed to beat all and sundry in making their way back to the top. So far they have lived true to form raking in their third win in as many matches to be at the top of the standings with 9 points.
Wednesday’s opening clash saw Thomas United positing their second win from four matches when they edged Northern Rangers by the odd goal in three.
Leroy Griffith (18) and Rawlston Heliger (28) were the players on target for Thomas, Brent Camacho tucked in Northern Rangers consolation in the 57th minute.
Play will continue next Tuesday with University of Guyana taking on Black Pearl at the Parade ground while over at the Camptown ground, Northern Rangers oppose Western Tigers. Both matches kick off at 16:00hrs.
On Wednesday it’s back at Thirst Park for another double header. Houston Stars face Thomas in the opening clash from 17:30hrs with feature play between Beacon and Flamingo.
