Guyana’s Aliann Pompey failed to move past the semi-final round of the Beijing Olympics 400m after finishing fourth in her semi race yesterday.
She clocked 50.93, better that her quarter-final 50.99 but well behind qualifiers Christine Ohuruogu of Great Britain (50.14) and Shericka Williams of Jamaica (50.28). Tatiana Firova of Russia (50.31) finished third but did not qualify either for the final.
Favourite Sanya Richards of the US had the best qualifying time (49.90) under 50 seconds to send an ominous message to all comers.
Jamaican Rosemarie Whyte (50.63) also is reported to have qualified for the final.
