DEAR EDITOR,
On July 19, 2008, in a letter to two daily newspapers, I gave reasons why the scholar Freddie Kissoon might be right about CANU.
The other day, while at my Liberty Avenue apartment in New York, I received a fax from a close relative in Guyana. On looking at it, I discovered that it was an excerpt from the Kaieteur News paper, captioned, “CANU still headless”.
Two things about the article made me laugh aloud: one is that the Government will soon move to appoint a Head of CANU, and two is that Dr. Luncheon said he did not believe CANU was headless, because someone is currently acting in the position of Head. My source told me that was not true. My relative ought to know, because of the position he holds.
He said that no one holds any such acting position, not even a very senior former officer who tries to keep the wheels of administration oiled, and who is respected by many. I hope the right decision is taken, so that we do not become the laughing stock of many.
It is important to note that two months have elapsed and no appointment has been made. This is ridiculous.
Anyhow, I want Freddie to know that I am still focused on his writings, and I am sure others are. Sookram Samaroo
