Unreasoning criticism of a dynamic force in the country

Freddie Kissoon seems to be hooked on a perennial anti-PPP anti-government stance, which is also unreasoning, unreasonable, and unrealistic.
In his Sunday, August 3, 2008 column in Kaieteur News, he denigrates all the delegates attending the 29th Congress of the PPP, showing that as far as he is concerned, they are incapable of thinking for themselves, and are incapable of making intelligent decisions on the way forward for their party in government.
The 29th Congress of the PPP is another indication that democracy is alive and well, not only in Guyana, but also in the PPP. It further establishes that the legacy of Dr. Cheddi Jagan is unassailable.
The PPP is not an Indian party, but is multi-ethnic, multi-racial and crosses class lines, and is a socially cohesive and dynamic force in the country. The party has stood the test of time, in and out of Government, and shows the wealth of leadership talent within its ranks.
Unlike other parties, there is no dearth or shortage of members capable of providing leadership in the party as well as of the country. This is a direct result of their practice of democracy, their vision, and faith in the future of the country.
The difficulties in the country, which we are currently experiencing, are not unique to Guyana, but exist in many other countries within and without the region. This is, of course, no excuse for us to be complacent, and the party and Government continue to vigorously pursue and implement solutions.
There can be no doubt that the support for the party and Government continues to grow, and that the future of the country is assured with the continuing evolution of our governance and building of unity, cohesion and harmony.
