DEAR EDITOR,
I am somewhat, but not very, surprised that Mr. Navindo Tinsarran (“An absurd, insolent comparison,” 07/08/08) missed the point of Mr. Khan’s letter (Noise pollution perennial on the Essequibo Coast,” 04/08/08).
Mr. Khan was talking of the extremely high, disturbing and unhealthy volume of the sound (NOISE!) not the content or meaning of the sound.
Anyone – High Priest of the Lord or high priest of the Devil – who exceeds the legal noise levels is committing a breach of the law and can rightly be called lawless.
It is long overdue for the Police to bring in and use decibel/sound level meters and prosecute those who breach the sound limit laws, as they use radar guns to catch over-speeding drivers.
I ask Mr. Tinsarran to read my letter “A note of advice,” (06/08/08) on the same issue of noise pollution.
Whether you praise the Lord or praise the Devil, you should do so at moderate volumes that will not disturb others who have no desire to hear your praises.
Become an Uncle Byra if YOU want, but you have no right to inflict the same on others. I hardly think the Lord will restore the hearing of those who wilfully destroy theirs and others. Yours faithfully,
M. Xiu Quan-Balgobind-Hackett
