DEAR EDITOR,
Your columnist Frederick Kissoon lacks the capacity to advance the reputation of his friends without at the same time pulling down others.
In his latest column published in the Kaieteur News of July 30, 2008, Kissoon made a pitch for two of his friends, Anil Nandalall and Airfan Ally. But he did so at the expense of Robert Persaud.
I believe that Kissoon feels that by praising comments made by Nandalall and Ally, he would be endorsing these friends when it comes to elections for the Central Committee of the party.
Both of these men could do without Kissoon’s support since the worst possible thing that any candidate can have is an endorsement from this anti- PPP crusader.
Robert Persaud acted in a professional way when he indicated that he would not speak to the media about Congress unless he got the permission of his party.
He understands the rules of the party and the fact that the best person to pronounce on matters of Congress would be the General Secretary.
This was not a refusal to comment; it was abidance with established practice whereby certain officers of the party are the designated spokesperson on certain issues.
It could lead to a range of problems if any and everyone represented the party’s position on subjects of Congress.
I think that Persaud through his insistence that he only comment on the subject after due authorisation represents his personal decision not to try to steal anyone’s thunder or dominate their turf.
He said he would speak only after permission was granted; this does not amount as Freddie would put it to a decision not to speak. Nayeem Khan
